The Anambra State Towns People Association-ASTPA, Abuja held its bi-annual Anambra Cultural Day on October27, 2017 at Eagles Square, Abuja with the Theme: Akulue Uno under the Chairmanship of Chief (DR) Simon N Okeke (Ochendo Amichi) OON, OFR, FNISV.
The Executive Governor of Anambra State, Chief (Dr) Willie Obiano (Akpokuedike) represented by his Deputy, Dr. Nkem Okeke was the Chief Host while the Honourable Minister, FCTA Mallam Muhammad Musa Bello was the Special Guest of Honour. The Minister of Information & Culture, Alhaji Lai Muhammed as well as All Members of National Assembly from Anambra State and the Anambra State Liaison Officer Abuja, Chief Barr (Mrs) Edith Ejezie were all Guests of Honour.
The Chairman of ASTPA Board of Trustees, Engr Charles Mbanefo (Nwamulunamma) FNSE was the father of the Day while Chief Barr. DR (MRS) Ifeyinwa Obegolu (Ada Igbo) was the Mother of the Day. The Royal Fathers of the Day were HRH Igwe Kris C Onyekwuluje DMA, Eze-Nya 1, IgweUmunya; HRH IgweDr A I Ofuebe JP, MON,Ogidiga Ifite Ogwari, Chairman Ayamelum LGA Council of Traditional Rulers; HRHIgwe Sir Emma Nnabuife KSJI, Ezeohazurume of Isseke Ancient Kingdom and HRH Igwe O D Ezeani Ugonabo Neni in Aniocha LGA.
There were other dignitaries that graced the occasion including members of ASTPA Board of Trustees, Past Presidents of ASTPA, Representatives of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Representatives of other State Associations from the South East, Members of Diplomatic Corps, Captains of Industry, Representatives of Multinational Organisations, Media Practitioners among others.
The event was massively attended by crowd of Ndi Anambra and their friends from all over Nigeria and beyond.It was held to celebrate, promote and project the rich cultural heritage of Anambra state to the world. Apart from various speeches from the dignitaries following a welcome address from The President –General of ASTPA, Engr. Ike Iwenofu, there were parades by the various Town Unions in Abuja in their respective unique colourful costumes. There were also exhibition of different cultural artefacts, traditional practices, dances, crafts and food of the various communities in Anambra state among other side attractions, above all there were an array of different masquerades from Anambra State that entertained the audience ensuring that there were never a dull moment throughout the day long event.
