Students from Anambra State in University of Abuja under the auspices of National Association of Anambra State Students, University of Abuja Chapter celebrated their cultural day on 7th September, 2018. The annual event is usually held within the second half of every year.
Addressing the guests at the event, the President, Comrade Amarachi Jacinta Ekwegbalu, who is also the first female student to occupy that position, explained that it is aimed at showcasing the rich culture of Anambra people to the University community, host community, tourists, etc, and also to remind the students of the unique cultural practices back home.
This year’sUni-Abuja Anambra Day was well attended by prominent personalities including EZEUDO GEORGE IBA OKEKEEze (Igbo Gwagwalada); IGWE BENEDICT UCHEAGU (Igweon campus); COMRADE ERNEST ONYEBUCHI (Omeluoha1); Representative of Anambra Towns (People) Association – ASTPA, Abuja; CEO 100PERCENT GOSPEL SIR OKONKWO (THE DOME); Staff Adviser; Students and other members of the University Community.
The event which kicked off with a beautiful rendition of Anambra state anthem by the Comrade Presidentafter the opening prayers also featured beauty pageant where Miss IfediEmmanuella emerged as Miss AnambraUni-Abuja. There were different several cultural dance presentations, as well asIgbo drama and songs. There was also exhibition of different traditional Anambra delicacies like Ugba, Abachaand Bitter Leaf Soup amongst others which added spice to the event. It was indeed a colourful and memorable event.
